In the Rearview

Hey everybody hope all is swell with you. These violent storms that keep passing through are beginning to be a regular occurrence, trust you all fared well and are enjoying the current (lovely) weather. We had one of our best “Open Mic” nights last Friday with Alana from Miss Sippy’s coming to belt out some great self penned songs. Very talented and the crew that accompanied was great as well. We had a number of musicians who took the stage and showed their mettle. Thanks to y’all, everyone enjoyed themselves. This Friday we have a big live act, so get ready!

Friday: KingBilly -

King Billy

I have talked about this band for a long time. Charlie Worsham originally from Grenada started making a good name for himself when just a pup, banjo on the Opry, playing in bands and honing his skills. This went on when he attended the Berkley College of Music in Boston where he continue to master his instrument and learn more about the art of a professional musical career. Fast forward to Nashville Tennessee and a mashup with a whole bunch of super-pickers, singers and musicans and now it seems they are positioned to be the perfect storm, about to cut a huge swath in the country music world. Charlie asked if it was ok for Great American Country (GAC) to come film in the Market as they are following this fine band on the tour. Sure Charlie, it’ll be just fine! See the video’s, listen up…call soon or you may miss’em. Don’t. Just don’t or don’t blame us for not warning you…these guys will reach the top, but getting there the nice way! Just take a quick look and listen

A great local country-rock band and a great bunch of fun guys having a good time entertaining. Good to have them back in the Market sharing the goods with us. Come join them for a night of good food, music and dancing. You know you just may need another night off of kitchen duty and you’ll be glad you did!

Weekend Update - May 9-10

May 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Here we are another weekend of good food and music behind us and another one on the way. Nash Street did such a great job, and it didn’t go unnoticed just how far they had come in a short few months since we saw them last. We also ended up with quite a nice bunch of pickers and singers from up Oxford way come down for the Friday night open mic. Good to have Kevin, Amy and Luke to join the fun. Spread the good word wontcha?

Happenin’ this weekend?

It’s altogether appropriate for “EATS” to be in the Happenin’ portion of this email right? I mean after all, it’s one of the great reasons to come. The Finest thick cut steaks grilled to perfection, s-l-o-w smoked BBQ ribs and chicken that fall off the bone, and don’t forget a simple delicacy: Mr Sippy’s hickory powered pulled pork sandwich or the areas only wood fired pizza. Recent talk with folks in our travels near and far have found some disagreement over which is best. Steaks reign supreme in one view, the ribs are the “best I’ve ever eaten” is another and if folks at Turnrow Book Company last Thursday had a say, well, many said: “Best pizza I ever had!” Of course Rafael Alvarez wrote in the Baltimore Examiner recently we had “absolutely the best pork barbecue I have ever had” “Well we won’t argue with any of you, we’ll just say we make everything the best we possibly can. We do like to hear your feedback of course!

Thursday: BBQ and PIZZA NIGHT.

Slow smoked over hickory fire, and Pizza made on the wood-fired smoker with fire roasted peppers and vegetables, fine meats and the amazing Mockingbird Bakery sourdough pizza crusts. Best around!

Friday - Open Mic

Jam Beginning at 7:00 pm. It’s getting more fun each week, and more folks are joining in, the way it’s supposed to be. The Oxford crew came in and fired things up last week, why don’t you come rally this Friday? More’s better!

Saturday May 10 - The Sofa Kings

The Sofa Kings

“The Sofa Kings” of the Jackson area made quite an impression on those folks who caught their Cajun-rockabilly- country-rock act not too long ago. We’re pleased to have them coming back, squeeze box and harmonica in place and don’t forget your dancing shoes, they are perfect accompaniment for the funky folk at the CCM.

Friday - Open Mic

Jam Beginning at 7:00 pm. I’ve heard already from some pickers that they’re coming to play this Friday, so if you were thinking of coming to give it a try, as they say.”just do it!” We really do have fun and it’s great fun!

Saturday May 3 - Nash Street

Nash Street

This young bluegrass band from Mississippi just recently won the National Country band competition sponsored by Colgate. The two talented sisters on mandolin, fiddle & vocals are joined by 3 young men who really add the perfect dimension to the sound the band has established. Fine songs and fine picking and singing from a fine bluegrass band, Mississippi’s contribution to the future of bluegrass, come see what they are all about. Just fine! Check them out on myspace.
